Funny, fast and flying: Infield entertainment set for Ponoka Stampede

Hold onto your belt buckles, some high-flying entertainment – not just the wildly talented cowboys and cowgirls competing this year — will be hitting the dirt of the infield at the Ponoka Stampede.

Hold onto your belt buckles, some high-flying entertainment – not just the wildly talented cowboys and cowgirls competing this year — will be hitting the dirt of the infield at the Ponoka Stampede.

Returning to the Stampede infield is Ash Cooper from Senlac, Saskatchewan, famously known as ‘Crash’ Cooper, as the Stampede’s rodeo clown.

As one of the most popular rodeo entertainers in North America, Cooper has performed in many finals, including the Canadian Finals Rodeo numerous times, and rodeos across Canada and the United States.

As a multiple-time winner of Canada’s Entertainer of the Year, Cooper is sure to dazzle the crowds again at Stampede with his quick jokes, infield dancing and crowd-engaging energy.

In addition to intermission performances, Cooper also shows off his skills and quick reflexes throughout the events including the bull riding. It’s no wonder he’s quick on his feet given his history as a bullfighter before deciding to don the face paint and overalls for his time in the arena.

Also returning to this year’s Stampede is the Wild Rose Cowgirls Trick Riding team. As some of the best trick riders in the country these young ladies take daring to the next level. With tricks from horseback including hanging upside down when moving at full speed to incredible balancing acts in the saddle they are sure to impress on the infield.

The team is made up of Mackenzie Jensen, Ryan McGillivray, Kenzie McGillivray, Jayna Hale and Sawyer Lacey.

Other infield performances include the grand entry on opening day, as well as bullfighters, Wild Horse Races, Kids Wild Pony Racing and the Flying Cross Jockey Club.
