There will be a packed slate of events to enjoy in Mirror over the May long weekend.

Things kick off with a pancake breakfast on May 18 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Mirror Community Hall, said Dianne Fankhanel, who is organizing the ball tournament which runs through the weekend as well.

“We have events all day Saturday and all day Sunday as well,” she said, adding that there will also be free camping.

Also on Saturday is a parade starting at 11 a.m. on 50 Ave.

The Mirror Library Book and Plant Sale runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the Mirror and District Museum will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well.

Folks can pop by the Mirror Alliance Church for hot dogs at 11:30 a.m., and also check out Gracie D’s Car Show and Shine from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 5410 - 50 Ave.

Kids will enjoy the bouncy castles by Earth Mama Bouncers at the community hall from 1 to 4 p.m. and wrapping things up Saturday evening will be a cabaret by MABDCSS from 7 p.m. to midnight at the community hall as well.

On May 19, the Mirror and Community Market Fundraiser runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the community hall. Several home businesses will be set up, plus there will be live music and a concession-style lunch.

All proceeds will go to support the purchase of a new stairlift at the community hall.

Other weekend highlights include community-wide garage sales and food trucks.

Another main highlight of the weekend will be the slo-pitch tournament running at the ball diamonds, said Fankhanel.

“Mirror had a ball tournament every May long weekend for probably about 30 years,” she said.

It unfortunately ended at one point, but organizers decided this was the year to re-launch the tradition, she added.

“We just decided that we had to get this going again,” she said, adding she’s lived in town for 48 years and started playing ball herself in the community upon moving there.

So far, eight teams have signed on this year, but Fankhanel said she would like to see upwards of 16 teams so anyone interested in joining in can call her at 403-391-4083 to register.

“It’s also not a professional tournament by any means - we just come out and have a lot of fun!”
