Ponoka Kinettes plant flowers in hospital's Sommer garden

My name is Marilyn Gardner and I’m a Trustee of Ponoka Hospital Foundation. I’ve been assigned to contact you re a news item we’d like to put in the Ponoka News Paper.

Ponoka Kinette members have again given their time planting flowers in the Sommer Garden at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre.

On May 28, the Kinettes also helped clean up the flowerbeds on the west side of the hospital, said Marilyn Gardner, a trustee with the Ponoka Hospital Foundation.

Each year, the foundation purchases the flowers from Country Gardens and Greenhouse.

"For the last 10-plus years, the Kinettes have volunteered their services to plant flowers at the Sommer Garden," she said, adding that the group has a passion for the project.

"On behalf of the foundation, we would like to thank the Kinettes for their help and time in enhancing the garden area," she said. "We want to give them kudos for doing this."

The Sommer Garden was dedicated in 2006 in memory of Knud Greve Sommer (2005) and Johanne Stenz Sommer (2006).

As Gardner pointed out, it's a wonderful spot for patients and their families to enjoy.

She also said that as a relative newcomer to town, she has been inspired by the efforts of both the foundation and the auxiliary for their ongoing fundraising efforts that support various hospital initiatives in general.

"It is pretty awesome what they (the Sommer family) did for the patients and their families at the hospital."
