It’s Smile Cookie time again, and in Ponoka, that means supporting Ponoka Youth Centre programs.

Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie campaign runs from April 29 to May 5.

During this time, 100 per cent of the proceeds from each smile cookie is donated to local participating charities.

This year, the Ponoka Youth Centre has a goal of selling 7,000 cookies.

“That is almost one cookie per person in Ponoka,” said Beth Reitz, executive director of Ponoka Youth Centre/BGC of Wolf Creek.

In Ponoka, $1.50 from each smile cookie sold will benefit youth centre programs.

“We know that money is precious, but everyone loves supporting a good cause, especially with a smiling cookie,” said Reitz.

A pre-order form was emailed out to youth centre families and contacts, but if you didn’t receive one, paper copies are available at the youth centre.

“If you would like to order a few (cookies) for your colleagues, family, staff or friends, your cookies will be ready when you arrive at Tim Hortons,” said Reitz.

The first Smile Cookie campaign was in 1996, and since then, the annual charitable campaign has raised over $111 million for charities and community groups.

Recipients are selected by Tim Hortons restaurant owners and typically include local hospitals, food banks, schools and community care organizations.

Other Central Alberta beneficiaries of this year’s campaign include the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation, the Blackfalds Food Bank, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Lacombe and the Rimbey Boys and Girls Club.
