After a successful debut last year, the 2024 Ponoka Stampede Western Art Competition is back.

The submitted pieces from students in Grades 1 to 12 were to focus on Western heritage.

Artwork could be a painting or drawing and could feature themes such as cowboys or cowgirls competing, chuckwagon racing, the rodeo queen, flag girls, a pick-up man, bullfighters, Kids Wild Pony Racing, the grandstand, a rodeo fan or Crash Cooper the rodeo clown.

Two winners from each grade were chosen as finalists and received a day of unlimited rides at the West Coast Amusements midway at the Ponoka Stampede.

In addition to the prizes, the finalists’ artwork was posted on all of the Stampede’s social media pages.

The winning pieces are also available to be viewed at the Ponoka Stampede Wild West Tradeshow at the Ponoka Arena Complex from June 28 to July 1.
